Borrowing

  1. Browse the library collection or search the online catalog to find the books you want to borrow..
  2. Bring your ID to the circulation desk.
  3. For one week, you can borrow up-to Five (5) books at a time based on your category. See the Borrowing Regulations.
  4. You can renew your books up to three (3) times, provided they are not reserved by another patron.

NOTES: Items marked with "[NB]" on the label below the call number (e.g., 823.11 XYZ) are not available for borrowing.These may be reference materials or other restricted items.

Renewing

Online Renewals:

  1. Visit the library's website: lib-catalog.ngu.edu.eg
  2. Log in to your library account using your Library username and password.
  3. You will see a list of your borrowed items. Each item will have a "Renew" option.
  4. Click the "Renew" button for each book you want to extend the borrowing period. The due date should be automatically updated for another week.
  5. Important: Double-check that the new due date has been reflected after clicking "Renew".

If the due date doesn't update, or you have trouble renewing online, contact the library:

  • Chat with a librarian (if available).
  • Send an email to library@ngu.edu.eg.
  • Or: bring the books to the library before the original due date to renew them in person.
Returning

On-time Return:

  • Please return borrowed books to the library on or before the due date displayed on your online library account.

Late Returns:

Placing a Book Hold

The library allows you to place holds on books that are currently borrowed by other patrons.

How to Place a Hold:

  1. Visit the library's website: https://lib-catalog.ngu.edu.eg/
  2. Search for the book you need.
  3. Important: Before placing a hold, verify that all available copies are currently borrowed. You can usually see this information on the book's detail page.
  4. If all copies are borrowed, locate the "Hold" button and click it.

Pick-up Notification:

  • You will receive an automated email notification when the reserved book is returned to the library.

Hold Period:

  • The book will be held for your pick-up for 2 days only. After that, it becomes available to other patrons.
Late Fines
  • The late fee is 10 L.E for each book that is not returned by the due date.
  • Weekends and official holidays are not included.
  • Maximum overdue fine is 300 L.E.
  • After reaching the maximum overdue amount, the account is blocked, and borrowing is no longer permitted.
  • Replacement costs for the LOST book include the average cost of a circulating item plus a 25% processing fees. If the item is returned after fees have been assessed, all fines will be forgiven.
  • In case of an emergency that may prevent the returning of the book(s) on the due date, an e-mail should be sent to the library staff.
